About this program

A ceramics workshop for independent young makers who enjoy experimenting and discovering what they can create rather than working towards a set outcome. Led by artist Machiko Motoi, children explore both handbuilding and wheel throwing in a relaxed, open studio environment, with Machiko introducing techniques such as cross hatching to help them build and join their clay creations.

Machiko encourages students to lead their own creative process, offering guidance rather than a fixed brief. She is a multidisciplinary artist working across ceramics and drawing, a sessional lecturer in Ceramics at the National Art School, and enjoys watching young artists develop their ideas through clay.
