Senior Transition Art Classes

Teenage artists refine advanced drawing and painting skills in a class designed to prepare them for HSC Visual Arts or a transition into adult classes.

In this art class for school age children students continue to develop excellence in artistic skills in preparation for entry into HSC Visual Arts courses or transition to adult classes. The focus is in these visual arts classes is refining and developing advanced drawing and painting skills. Students may choose to follow the term topic OR develop a major work based on a subject of their own choice. These art classes provide personalised tutoring to identify and develop the right artistic skills for each student. Advanced artistic concepts related to composition, theme and narrative are explored.

Each term, we develop fresh lesson plans around an exciting new topic to keep your child fully engaged and inspired. By presenting techniques and artistic styles in the context of a famous art movement or artist, a new topic each term boosts interest, accelerates learning, and makes every class feel exciting and purposeful.

Students examine techniques from some of the most influential artists in history, understanding how these masters achieved realism, expression, structure, and impact, then applying those principles to create original artworks of their own. Skills developed include:

• Observational drawing & accurate rendering
• Expressive brushwork & impasto techniques
• Stylized form & figure composition
• Structural composition & geometric planning
• Colour theory & application
• Full project execution & iteration

Classes run for 9 consecutive weeks starting the same week as NSW Public Schools. There are no classes on NSW public holidays and an extra week is added at the end of term so students receive a total of 9 classes.

Art classes for kids are available in studios in Hornsby, Baulkham Hills & Epping. We recommend students purchase the Sydney Art School Student Resource Kit, or supply their own paints, brushes and A3 visual art diary. Palettes and water jars are provided in the classroom, and each term the school provides additional material for major work (canvas, high quality paper).
